Meet the Ayam Cemani, an Indonesian exotic chicken breed that is entirely black.

A breed of chicken with black feathers and organs? Many of us don't think this strange animal exists. But it does, humans. Ayam Cemani is a rare and beautiful breed of chicken from Indonesia. It's been called the "Lamborghini of poultry."

Ayam Cemani is black all the way through, making it one of Earth's rarest and most mysterious breeds. This chicken has black feathers, black skin, a black comb, black meat, black organs, and black bones!

This breed's striking black color comes from a mutant fibro melanistic gene that makes it produce too much black pigment. And this makes the tissues and skin black.

Even though Ayam Cemani is a beautiful bird, it is friendly and easy to handle.

Ayam Cemani is a medium-sized bird. Both roosters and hens weigh between 3.5 and 4.5 pounds. The hens lay between 60 and 100 cream-colored eggs in their first year. But for three to six months, they won't lay eggs.

Ayam Cemani is a sign of wealth and social status in Asia. This beautiful breed of chicken is also said to have magical powers that connect the living world with the spirit world. It is offered to the gods as a sacrifice.

Also, charcoal-colored blood and other parts of the bird were used to make traditional medicines.
